Throughout the space, the Kapok Story design breaks through the simple depiction of life and presents delicate emotions and simple art through the collision of materials, lines, and colors. The result is a calm and quiet space that exudes elegance and sophistication. The complete set of functions in the design builds up daily richness and guides a leisurely lifestyle.
On a simple base, the designer has realized the richness of the space through the collision of lines and materials. The rough marble and simple wood veneer of the sofa background create an interesting texture, while the carpet pattern echoes the shape of the tea table. The division and reorganization of the marble blocks on the opposite side of the living room, along with the play of light and shadow, adds depth and dimension to the space.
The Kapok Story design covers a total area of 230 square meters and was completed in Fuzhou between January 2019 and June 2020. The design team, led by Yufang Lin, carefully considered the functionality and operation of the space. The addition of a colorful cartoon installation adds a touch of elegance to daily life.
In the bedroom, the design sought to create a sense of freedom and imagination. The large area of blank space allows for unrestrained living, while the nested connection with the cloakroom and master bathroom provides convenience and comfort. The use of invisible sliding doors adds a sense of purity and independence to the bedroom.
The dining room in the Kapok Story design is a complex functional space that combines dining, communication, relaxation, and personal preferences. The top ceiling, adorned with steel pipes and linear lights, creates dynamic light and shadow effects, adding a three-dimensional feel to the space.
The open public areas in the design, including the book bar, tea tasting area, living room, dining room, and Chinese and Western style kitchens, are connected and integrated, forming a complete social system. Hidden functional partitions, achieved through differences in the top ceiling and ground material, blur the boundaries of life and bring people closer together in the space.
The Kapok Story design, captured beautifully by photographer Lingyu Li, has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This award recognizes the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements.
With its unique combination of functionality, artistry, and attention to detail, the Kapok Story design by Yufang Lin stands as a testament to the possibilities of creating a sophisticated and elegant residential space.
